India seeks greater market access for its commodities in China

India has sought more market access for its commodities in China. Pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, IT and IT enabled services and agricultural products are the key areas identified for Indian exports to China.The issue was prominently discussed during the talks between the President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil with the Party Secretary Shanghai Mr Yu Zhengsheng in the Chinese economic and trade capital Shanghai today.Later briefing media persons Foreign Secretary Ms Nirupama Rao said the trade deficit between India and China in recent past is a matter of great concern for both the countries and they have resolved to address it more seriously so as to meet the bilateral trade target of 60 million US dollars during the current fiscal. Mr Rao said, Mr Yu Zhengsheng told the Indian President that scientific and technical cooperation between both the countries would be taken to new heights and steel, automobile & automotive components industries and power generation could be good areas for cooperation.Foreign Secretary said, India will further intensify its trade promotion activities in China. With this objective, a series of business promotion programmes has been launched. While programmes in three cities have already been conducted, 14 more events will be organised in the next five months in different parts of China including Changdu. Mr Nirupama Rao said, India has recently exported Alphanso mangoes to China for the first time and export of spices and Basmati Rice has also begun.The President Mrs Pratibha Patil who is on a 6-day State tour to China, today visited Shanghai Expo. Making a statement at the India pavilion she said, with the increase in Urbanisation, it has become very much necessary to plan and build our cities in such a manner that human being can lead a better life. She said, India is committed to pursue green technologies. She also visited the Chinese pavilion. Later, she unveiled a bronze bust of Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore at Mao Ming Road and Nanchang Road in the city. The ceremony was attended by senior dignitaries of the Shanghai Municipal Peoples Government along with the local leadership of Luwan District.
