India has sought greater global cooperation to combat terrorism. Terming it a global challenge, President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil said world-wide network of non-state actors is threatening the regional peace and security. She was delivering the inaugural address of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of National Defence College in New Delhi on Thursday.Pratibha Patil said sophisticated technology have added to new areasof security threats like trans-national crimes, cyber attack and drug trafficking. Constantly changing nature of warfare and threats to national security calls for a strong defence and an effective deterrence. These are essential to preserve peace. She said India needs to remain alert for any eventuality.National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon said that the Indian nuclear doctrine is very clear with its emphasis on minimal deterrence, no first use against non-nuclear weapon states and its direct linkage to nuclear disarmament. He said it is India's goal to work for a world free of nuclear weapons. National Security Adviser reasserted that India seeks new security architecture to correspond to the new emerging situations across the globe.The King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk was the chief guest at the inaugural function. Several dignitaries including Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma, Air Chief Marshal P V Naik and Army Chief General V K Singh and Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar attended the function.
