India has sought an enduring partnership with Africa in the field of Hydrocarbon for meeting the ever increasing demand of energy in the country. Addressing the 3 rd Hydrocarbon Conference in New Delhi on Friday Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr. S. Jaipal Reddy said India is keen to become a dependable supplier of petroleum products to Africa as its energy demands is rising.
Mr. Reddy said Indian companies are keen to grasp the opportunities in producing petroleum blocks especially in Libya, Algeria, Egypt and Nigeria. He said Africa is emerging as the most promising entrant to the world’s oil and gas producers club and there should be a complementary relation between the two regions.
Expressing the need for cooperation between the regions, he said the conference provides a compressive platform for deliberation and consultation aimed at boosting trade and investment between both the regions.
The Minister said country’s refined petroleum products capacity is likely to touch nearly 70 million tones by 2014 and it will make India one of the world’s leading exporters of petroleum products.
