India has sought assurance from the US over the safety of the Indian community living in that country. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna spoke to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding the shooting incident at a Wisconsin Gurdwara that left seven people dead.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Mr Krishna said that he has requested strengthening of security at places of worship during a telephonic conversation with Ms Clinton, who is currently in South Africa. He said that an assurance to the Indian community has to come out from the Obama administration that their interests are going to be safe. Mr Krishna said on both accounts, he found Secretary Clinton more than willing to do it.
Mr. Krishna said FBI has already swung into action and
Ms Clinton is waiting for the preliminary report. He said that the government will be given the report as soon as she get it.
The Minister said that US Ambassador Nirupama Rao is also in touch with the White House and the State Department
A former US Army man has been identified a suspect of shooting 7 people at a Gurudwara at Wisconsin in the US.
