India and South Africa signed a pact to facilitate exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of election management and administration in New Delhi today. It was signed by the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr. S.Y. Quraishi and the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of South Africa, Dr. Brigalia Bam. The MoU also paves the way for promotion and implementation of educational research and training programmes.
On this occassion, Dr. Bam complimented India for the model conduct of election and the practices of democracy in a complex and challenging situation.
Dr. Qureshi emphasized the similarity of experience of the two Election Commissions. He commended the South African Electoral Commission for having served as an example for Africa.
He said, Election Commission of India has so far signed eleven MoUs with Election Management Bodies across the world including Brazil, Russia, Indonesia, Bhutan and Nepal.
