India and Russia will sign several agreements and MoUs on various fields following annual summit talks at Moscow today. Agreements will be signed on Programme of Cooperation in the field of Biotechnology, Cooperation in the fields of Science, Technology and Innovation and a treaty on transfer of sentenced persons. While, MoUs will be signed on two different fields including enhancing cooperation in energy saving and energy efficiency and closer technical cooperation in the field of standardisation between Bureau of Indian Standards, BIS and Federal Agency on Technical Regulating and Metrology of Russia.
Highly placed diplomatic sources said that Commercial agreement on the third and fourth nuclear reactors for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu would not be inked during the visit. But both India and Russia are very close to clinching a commercial deal on the third and fourth reactors and only the legal vetting of the deal is left.
After his arrival at Moscow yesterday, the Prime Minister said that India and Russia share a privileged, special partnership. He said that both the counties will discuss trade and investment and also review the international and regional developments and how they impact both the countries.
AIR Correspondent covering the Prime Minister’s visit reports that Dr. Singh will be meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin for official talks today.
