India-Russia to sign Nuclear pact & several other agreements

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is meeting Russian President Damitry Medvedev and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin separately in Moscow during his Annual bilateral summit on Monday. India is hopeful of inking an expanded civil nuclear deal with Russia apart from several agreements on defence, space, science and technology.<br/><br/>AIR Correspondent covering the Prime Minister’s visit reports from Moscow that civil Nuclear deal for peacefull use of Nuclear Energy is in the in advance stage and likely to be signed today. The Civil Nuclear agreement will envisages broad-based cooperation on a range of technologies and knowhow in the realm of peaceful uses of nuclear technology. It is also expected that India will be allowed to enrich Russian-supplied uranium up to 20 percent and also get reprocessing consent rights for all future Russian reactors supplied to India.<br/><br/>Dr. Singh and Russian President Medvedev will also discuss supply of four more Russian reactors for nuclear power station in Koodankulam in Tamil Nadu. The Nuclear Power Corporation of India and its Russian counterpart Atomstroyexport are currently collaborating for installation of two reactors in Koodankulam. The other major agreements likely to be signed are three defence deals, including the one on cooperation in development and production of multi-role transport aircraft, MTA, which will give India an opportunity to enter the global export market. The other two agreements include an estimated 5 billion dollar pact on extending the programme for military and technical cooperation for the period 2011-2020 while pact on after-sales support for Russian arms and military equipment supplied to India will also be signed. The delegation level talks between the two country will also held today.<br/><br/>AIR correspondents Yogesh Pandya & R.C. Shukla reports from Moscow that signing of framework agreement on civil nuclear cooperation and three defence deals are high on agenda when the Prime Minister Dr Singh will meet the Russian leaders during the Summit level talk. Indo-Russian strategic partnership will also get the new peak after the signing of these agreements. India is keen to show that the relation with Russia is time tested and there will be no clutches in it despite India’s improved relations with US and other western countries.<br/>
