India-Russia to jointly develop Multirole Transport Aircraft in India

The efforts to design and develop Multirole Transport Aircraft by India and Russia has got a big boost with the signing of a share holders agreement for setting up of a joint venture company in this regard. The joint venture will be formed between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, HAL and the Russian partners United Aircraft Corporation Rosoboronexport to jointly developed and produced these aircrafts. Under the project approved by the Indian and Russian government, two hundred and five such aircrafts are planned to be manufactured with equal share of work and cost between HAL and its Russian partners. The joint venture company will be set up at Banglore in India for executing the project. Our correspondent says that the MTA aircraft have 15 to 20 tonne payload capacity, and it will have a speed of 800 kms per hour with a range of 25 hundred to 27 hundred Kms. The aircraft will have two engines, state of the art features, modern avionics and glass cockpit.
