India returns to the United Nation's Security Council as a non-permanent member from today. The move comes after a gap of 19 years. India's ambassador to the UN Hardeep Singh Puri has said India would attach particular importance to the human rights issues during its two-year term. Puri said India and other permanent members of the UN were on the same page on most of the international issues. Germany, South Africa, Columbia and Portugal also assume charge as non-permanent members of the Council from today.
