The 33rd India International Trade Fair, IITF, opened at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Inaugurating the fair this morning, President Pranab Mukherjee said it is a successful platform to bring together nations and further trade relations with participating countries. Mr Mukherjee said the fair is a reflection of India's entrepreneurship. He said the Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises sector can only prosper if concerted efforts are made at widening markets for their products.
Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said India is the third most favoured investment destination despite economic slowdown.
The 14-day event will continue till 27th of this month. The theme for this year's fair is inclusive growth.
Our correspondent reports that about 6,000 exhibitors including 250 from foreign countries are participating in the fair. This year Japan is a partner country and South Africa, the focus country. While Bihar is a partner state, Odisha is the focus state. The mega event will be open for general public from 19th of this month. Tickets costing 50 rupees for working days and 80 rupees for Saturdays, Sundays and holidays will be available from 9.30 in the morning till 5.30 in the evening. Tickets can also be bought from identified metro stations, including Anand Vihar, Central Secretariat, Kashmere Gate, Rajiv Chowk and Barakhamba. Entry for senior citizens and physically challenged is free of cost.
