India releases 16 Pak nationals

As a good will gesture, India has released 16 Pakistan nationals, including two fishermen, via Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post, today. They were loadged in various jails for crossing over into Indian territory and had been released after the completion of their sentence.

Their release is reportedly part of the goodwill gesture following the understanding between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif during their meeting at Russian city Ufa, last month. Earlier, on Tuesday Pakistan repatriated 163 fishermen.

The two sides had decided to release fishermen in each other's custody, along with their boats, within a period of 15 days. The decision is helping in addressing one of the major humanitarian issues between both the neighbouring nations.
