India has reiterated its commitment to the quest for an AIDS vaccine. In a statement marking the occasion of World AIDS Vaccine Day today, Union Science and Technology Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal emphasised the need to stimulate innovation to seek new ways of developing and testing such a vaccine. He said strategic global partnerships should be created to address scientific challenges in the path of the discovery of an AIDS vaccine. Mr. Bansal said there is need to train a new generation of young and enthusiastic scientists who are willing to dedicate themselves to the discovery of an AIDS vaccine. AIR correspondent adds that over the last three decades, HIV has infected more than 60 crore people and claimed nearly 30 crore lives worldwide.
