India providing grant of 3.07 cr to Nepal for River Training Works

India is providing a grant of 3.07 crore rupees to Nepal for River Training Works in Mustang district. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu with the District Development Committee, Mustang for providing the grant. The grant will be used for river training works of Kaligandaki river near Village Gumba under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Programme. The Kaligandaki River flowing through the central part of the district causes severe erosion of banks and inundation of land during monsoon causing problems for the residents of its catchment area and also poses a threat to the existence of the 533 years old Buddhist monastery located at Kagbeni village. The infrastructure being constructed with India's grant assistance will help control floods and save the loss of valuable property, crops and human lives caused due to the flood in Kaligandaki River every year. India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme has an outlay over 5700 crore Nepali rupees. More than 380 large and small projects are completed or currently being implemented in all districts of Nepal in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development.
