India-Poland sign pact to boost bilateral culural exchange

India and Poland have signed a pact to intensify bilateral cultural exchange programme. It was signed after the delegation level talks beween the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his visiting Polish counterpart Donald Tusk in New Delhi this evening. Mr. Tusk who arrived on a three day visit to India yesterday held discussion with the captains of Industry in Banglore. He was accorded a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning. During the discussions with Dr. Singh, strengthening of relationship in the fields of defence, trade and investiment was high on the agenda. The conclusion of India -EU free trade agreement is belived to have figured in the talks. India and EU have been actively engaged on concluding this agreement for quite some time now. Poland is all set to take over the presidency of EU next year. According to External Affairs Ministry sources discussions in defence cooperation include joint ventures and transfer of technology. During his stay in the national capital, Mr. Tusk will call on the President and the Vice President and hold discussions with the UPA chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and the External Affairs Minister Mr. S.M. Krishna. AIR correspondent Vijay Raina reports that the India and Poland have deep cultural ties and today's pact on cultural exchange has further cemented the age old bilateral ties. The two countries are looking forward to explore ways and means to realise the full potential of the bilateral trade which is at present 4.12 billion US dollars.
