The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh says, India is poised to become the world's 3rd largest economy by 2025, if it continues with the 9 percent growth. But, he said, it will not happen automatically by simply proceeding on a business as usual basis. He was speaking at the inauguration of the Diamond Jublee celebration and 57th annual convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharakpur, West Bengal Monday evening. Dr. Singh said, the global economy is facing uncertainties and India's economy has also slowed down. He said following the downgrade of the US credit rating, capital flows to emerging stock markets, including India, have been hit severely. The Prime Minister said merit and technology have to come together to resolve complex problems like Rapid urbanisation, climate change or energy security. The scientific and entrepreneurial energy should be channelled to spark a second green revolution and to find new pathways for sustainable growth.
