India plans to construct 6 more fast breeder nuclear reactors

India is planning to construct six more fast breeder nuclear reactors FBRs over next 15 years. These will be in addition to country's first 500-MegaWatts Prototype FBR set up at Kalpakkam, near Chennai, that is expected to become critical by April next year. This was stated by P Chellapandi, who is the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharatiya Nabhikiya<br/>Vidyut Nigam Limited BHAVINI. <br/><br/>Speaking to reporters on sidelines of an International Conference, organised by Nuclear Fuel Complex in Hyderabad today, Chellapandi said that BHAVINI will seek government sanction for construction of two 600 MW reactors at Kalpakkam after one year of successful operation of its PFBR. He added, afterwards the nuclear community will have to think of new places for putting four more units.
