India pitched for finding innovative solutions to meet challenges of maintaining food security: Radha Mohan Singh

India has pitched for finding innovative solutions through collaborative and coordinated polices among the countries to meet the challenges of maintaining food and nutritional security. Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today said this while addressing the G-20 Agriculture Ministers' Meeting at Berlin in Germany. <br/><br/>According to an official release, Mr Singh said, the role of G-20 economies in achieving the sustainable global food security assumes significance. He said, the world economy has made strides in increasing the global food production, but the challenges of climate complexities, stress on natural resources and degrading soil heath pose serious risk in sustaining this growth momentum.<br/><br/>The Agriculture Minister said, India will continue to extend its support in early implementation of commitments on Research and Development, action to combat food loss and waste and information and communication technologies, ICT. <br/><br/>He said, in India, ICT has proved to be an effective medium to disseminate information on agronomic practices, fertilizer and pesticide use and weather related advisories. Mr Singh also informed that a major irrigation programme was launched in 2015 with emphasis on improving water-use efficiency through, water conservation, rainwater harvesting and use of micro-irrigation in the country.
