India, Papua New Guinea sign several agreements

India and Papua New Guinea have signed several agreements including in health, agriculture and security sectors today during the President Pranab Mukherjee's 2-day state visit. India has offered 100-million dollars line of credit to Papua New Guinea for specific projects in Transport and infrastructure sectors. India will provide medicines to 20,000 HIV-AIDS patients. In return, Papua New Guinea has agreed to provide visas on arrival for Indian tourists visiting the island nation. On an average, 40,000 Indian tourists visit the country every year.<br/><br/>President Pranab Mukherjee reiterated India's commitment to assist Papua New Guinea in capacity building and human resource development. Papua New Guinea welcomed India's initiative to mobilise solar rich resource countries that lie between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn through the International Solar Alliance.<br/><br/>President's Visit to Papua New Guinea is an important step in India's extended Act East policy, under which it is actively promoting good relations with smaller South Pacific islands nations.
