New Delhi has conveyed to Islamabad in very emphatic terms that terror-machine operating from Pakistani soil needs to be controlled and eliminated. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh also raised with his Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani the issues relating to rise in infiltration and slow progress in the trial of perpetrators of Mumbai Terror attcks. Dr Singh told Mr Gilani that India is willing to discuss all issues of concern with Pakistan and resolve those through dialogue, but the issue of terrorism is holding back progress.<br/>Briefing the media about the Hour-long meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of SAARC Summit in Thimphu, Foreign Secretary Nirupma Rao said, Prime Minister conveyed to Pakistan that Public opinion in India is most concerned about the issue of terrorism. Mr Gilani on his part assured India that Pakistan is serious about prosecuting the perpetrators of Mumbai attacks and all efforts are being made to bring the trial of these individuals to a speedy conclusion. He also reiterated that Pakistan will not allow its territory to be used for terrorist activities directed against India. Mrs Rao informed that the issue of Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of Mumbai attacks was also raised by India. Dr Singh said, Saeed is allowed to roam free and he is engaging in a language and communication that are not conducive in building an atmosphere of peace and stability. To this, Mr Gilani pointed out about certain complexities in Pakistani Judicial process, which India hoped would be strenthened in future.<br/>Mrs Rao informed, both India and Pakistan agreed that Foreign Ministers and Foreign Secretaries of the two sides will meet soon in working out modalities of restoring trust and confidence in the relationship, thus paving the way for a substantive dialogue on all issues of mutual concern. She said, the two sides also agreed on the need to assess the reasons underlying the current state of relationship and to think afresh on the way forward. Mrs Rao said, both sides agreed that dialogue is the only way forward and it is essential to open channels of communication which is good for the region and people of the two countries. On a question that Pakistan harping on Sharm-al-Sheikh joint statement as the basis for talks, the Foreign Secretary said that the issue did not come up. Similarly on issues like Balochistan and handing over of Kasab to Pakistan, Mrs Rao said, these were not raised during the meeting. When asked whether Indo-Pak talks have overshadowed SAARC, she replied that bilateral meetings always take place on the sidelines of the Summit and SAARC has its own importance as a regional grouping and it cannot be overshadowed by such events.
