The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said that India and Pakistan should put their ancient animosities behind to tackle the problems being faced by the two nations. Speaking at a dinner he hosted for his Pakistani counterpart Yusuf Raza Gilani during India-Pakistan World Cup semi final match at Mohali last night, Dr Singh said, a permanent reconciliation is required so that the two neighbours live with dignity and honour. Later, Dr Singh told PTV that whatever be the differences, the two countries have to find ways to resolve them. The Prime Minister said, he held extensive discussions on all outstanding issues with his Pakistani counterpart. He said, the message from Mohali is that the people of India and Pakistan want to live in peace and amity and that the two Prime Ministers have committed their governments to work in that direction. In a brief chat with Pakistan media after his dinner meeting with Dr Singh in Mohali last night, Mr Gilani described his talks with the Indian Prime Minister as positive and said they discussed all the core issues between the two countries. He said, the last night's cricket match brought the peoples and leadership of the two countries together. Mr Gilani said he invited the Indian Prime Minister and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to visit Pakistan. Briefing the media about the talks, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said, India and Pakistan sought to give push to normalization of ties. She said, Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart agreed that it could happen only in an atmosphere free from terror and violence. AIR correspondent reports that the dinner hosted by the Prime Minister had a lavish spirit of Indian cuisine. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, ICC Chief and Union Minister Sharad Pawar and Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik were among those who attended the dinner. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao has said that the two Prime Ministers discussed wide range of issues during their meetings at Mohali. Briefing the media about the discussion between Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yusuf Raza Gilani, Mrs Rao said, the conversations between the two Prime Ministers were held in extremely positive environment and encouraging sprit has been created between two nations. Mrs. Rao said, Foreign Secretaries of both the countries will hold talks some time in the middle of this year and that will be followed with a meeting between External Affairs Ministers of the two countries.
