India and Pakistan held Director General of Military Operations( DGMO) level talks Saturday evening. The request for the unscheduled Hot Line interaction between the DGMOs of the two armies came from the Pakistan side. <br/><br/>During the interaction, Indian DGMO Lieutenant General A K Bhatt asked his Pakistani counterpart to take steps to ensure peace and tranquility along the Line of Control, LoC. Lt. General Bhatt impressed upon the Pak DGMO that there appeared to be a disconnect between the intent at the Pakistan General Headquarters which reiterates its desire for peace, and the action of its troops along the LoC who resort to heavy firing without provocation. <br/><br/>He said, Indian Army will continue efforts to ensure peace and tranquility on the borders, however, it will continue to take all retaliatory measures and retain the right to punitively respond to any proactive acts of aggression from Pakistan side. <br/><br/>Over the allegation of Pak DGMO that Indian security forces had reportedly resorted to unprovoked firing along the LoC, Lt General Bhatt made it clear that the Indian Army always maintains impeccable standards of professionalism and does not target civilians in any manner.

Lt. General A K Bhatt impressed upon the Pak DGMO that Indian Army will continue efforts to ensure peace and tranquility on the borders. He said, however, support to terrorists by Pak Army is the prime reason for any collateral damage. <br/><br/>Over the allegation of Pak DGMO that Indian security forces had resorted to unprovoked firing along the LoC, Lt. General Bhatt emphatically stated that retaliatory firing by Indian troops has been only in response to unabated support by Pak Army to terrorists. <br/><br/>He also clarified that Indian Army does not target civilians. He said, on the contrary Pak Army has employed civilians at the forward posts and accorded permission for permanent locations of civilians in the vicinity of Pak Army posts. <br/><br/>He said these civilians have repeatedly been used for gaining information of locations of Indian army and providing guides to the terrorists while crossing the LoC.

Directors General of Military Operations level talks were held between India and Pakistan today, with regard to ceasefire violations allegedly being committed by troops of both countries on the Line of Control and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.<br/><br/>In a statement, Indian Army said, during the talks, Pakistan's DGMO Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza raised the issue of Indian troops targeting their Pakistani counterparts, resulting in the death of four Pakistani soldiers in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.<br/><br/>Indian Army's DGMO, Lt. Gen. A.K. Bhatt, highlighted that all cease-fire violations were initiated by Pakistan, and the Indian Army only responded appropriately to them. He stated that Indian Army reserves the right to retaliate appropriately to any incident of violation of ceasefire. <br/><br/>Lt Gen Bhatt reiterated that the Indian Army is sincere about maintaining peace and tranquillity along the LoC. He also emphasised that the trend of infiltration continued with active support of Pakistan's forward posts impacting peace and tranquility along LoC and also internal security situation. <br/><br/>The last DGMO-level talks took place on 5th June this year on the request of the Pakistan side. The Pakistani side then lodged a protest over the alleged killing of some civilians on their side by Indian Army's retaliatory firing to Pakistani ceasefire violations, which was strongly denied by the Indian side.
