India and Pakistan are all set to sign a new liberalised visa agreement today to boost a people to people contact. Official Sources said the pact was likely to be inked after the crucial talks between External Affairs Minister SM Krishna and his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar in Islamabad.
An MOU in the field of culture between Indian Council of Cultural Relations and Pakistan National Council of Arts will also be signed. Both the ministers will co-chair the Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) today. The JCM was revived in 2005 after a pause of 16 years. Indian official sources say terrorism and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks will form the core of New Delhi's discussions.
The Foreign Secretaries of the two countries met on Friday in Islamabad as the precursor to the Foreign Ministers’ dialogue. They discussed all aspects of the resumed dialogue process between the two countries.
Krishna is in Islamabad on a three-day visit to Pakistan to review the last round of the bilateral dialogue with Rabbani Khar. In his arrival statement in Islamabad, Krishna expressed India’s desire to see a stable and prosperous Pakistan living in peace with itself and the world.
