India, Pak to restart talks as foreign secys meet next week in Thimpu

The Foreign Secretaries of India and Pakistan will be attempting to unlock the process for normalising ties but nothing dramatic is expected at their meeting in Thimpu in the first week of next month. According to officials the meeting will provide an opportunity to have some clarity on the outstanding issues that need to be addressed. Emphasising that engagement and talking to Pakistan is the only way forward , the officials say that Thimpu meeting will be a kind of exploratory mission to see what can be planned for the months ahead. Mrs Nirupama Rao and Mr Salman Bashir have been communicating and have spoken a couple of times on phone ahead of their meeting in Bhutan.
