India Pakistan Parliamentary forum is being revived to promote peace and friendship between the two countries. A decision to this effect has been taken by the speaker Ms Meira Kumar and her Pakistani counter part Ms.Fahmida Mirza who met at the sidelines of the 20th conference of commonwealth speakers and presiding officers in New Delhi. Talking to reporters Mrs.Meira Kumar said that the details for reconstituting the forum are being worked out . The speakers of the two countries will be meeting again to finalize the names of the members of Parliament for the forum.AIR correspondent reports that the tone for the deliberations was set by the Prime Minister who identified extremism and growth of regional parties as a major challenge for the democratic institutions. The Speaker Ms Miera Kumar in her concluding remarks made it clear that that the presiding officers of the legislatures will have to take a lead to effectively take on the challenges facing the polities and societies across the globe. 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers of Legislatures from the Commonwealth including those of the Assemblies from India participated in the deliberations to further strengthen the democratic institutions and traditions across common Wealth.
