India-Pak foreign ministers' talks progressing well

The foreign ministers of India and Pakistan today held talks in Islamabad. Official sources said that the talks progressed well. The external affairs minister Mr. S.M. Krishna and his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi began discussions this morning. The two sides met again for a second round of talks.

This interaction is considered most significant since the prime ministers of the two countries decided in Bhutan in April to resume talks to put the relations back on track after the Mumbai terror attack.

On his arrival in Islamabad Mr. Krishna had underlined India’s need to see Pakistan act firmly on confessions by terror suspect David Coleman Headley, a Pakistan-born American. He told reporters that Headley told Indian and American interrogators that he had scouted high-profile sites in Mumbai to be targeted by the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
