India began their medal hunt in the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou, China with shooters winning 2 silver medals. Ace marksman Gagan Narang fetched the first individual medal for India by clinching silver in the 10 metre air rifle event and then teamed up with Bindra and Sanjeev Rajput to add another silver in the team event.In other events today, Indian competitors met with mixed fortunes. In Women's Hockey, Indian eves started their campaign in style thrashing lowly Malaysia 4-nil in their first Group A match. In the tennis courts, led by Somdev Devvarman, the men's team entered the quarter-finals with a 3-0 thrashing of Qatar, while the women went down by a similar margin to Indonesia. In the women's section, Sania Mirza opted out of the opening tie, owing to an ear problem.In the Badminton team events, Saina Nehwal and P. Kashyap scored impressive wins in their respective matches, but the Indian challenge ended in both men's and women's sections. In Billiards, defending champion Pankaj Advani stormed into the semi-finals of the singles event, but his compatriot Geet Sethi made a shocking first round exit. In Snooker, the women's team ousted Singapore3-0, to enter the last eight. India's campaign in weightlifting began on a disastrous note as three lifters in the fray, who had bagged medals in the Commonwealth Games performed below par and crashed out.
