India opened its account at the 18th Asian Athletics Championship, being held in China, with a bronze medal. Kavita Raut earned the bronze for India in final of Women's 5000 METERS race with China winning gold and Bahrain silver medals. The second gold for China came through Gong Lijao in Women's Shot Put with a throw of 19.08 metres. Silver medal also went to the hosts while Iran chipped in with a bronze.In women's long jump, Philippines' Marestella Torres won the gold medal with a jump of 6.51 metres.In Men's hammer throw event, Tajikistan stole the show with gold medal while Kuwait and China followed with silver and bronze medals. China is leading the medal tally with 2 gold.
