India have opened their medal account in Asian Junior Weightlifting championships with Matsa Santoshi bagging three bronze medals in the women's 48kg event. On the first day of the competition in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, today, Santoshi, lifted 71kg in snatch and 85kg in clean and jerk for a total of 156kg. Santoshi was tied with a Kazakh weightlifter in aggregate and had to be content with a bronze in total lift as she was 200gm more in body weight. The gold medal was won by a Chinese lifter, Indian Weightlifting Federation Secretary Sahdev Yadav said from Tashkent. Santoshi had also won a gold and two silver in the Asian Youth Championships which ended at the same venue on Sunday. where Indian girls have been crowned team champions ahead of traditional powerhouse China.India are being represented by 12 lifters in the Asian Junior Championships.
