India and Oman relations are poised to touch a new high with defence and security cooperation to be the focus of discussions. The two countries are also scheduled to discuss all aspects of bilateral relations with an emphasis on enhancing trade and investment. The Omanese foreign minister Yusuf Bin Alawi Bin will hold detailed talks with his Indian counterpart S M Krishna this evening on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest. Briefing reporters about the three day visit of Abdullah, the spokesperson of external affairs ministry Vishnu Prakash said that continuous high level contact between the two countries is bound to add new dynamism to the relations. The spokesman said that issues related to Indian Ocean Rim Association will also figure in the discussions. He said during his stay in New Delhi the foreign minister of Oman will call on the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and exchange views on the important bilateral issues. AIR correspondent reports despite the impact of global economic melt down the non-oil bilateral trade touched 4.5 billion dollars last fiscal.India and Oman joint investment fund will be made operational from Mumbai soon. MEA sources said that this is first of its kind that India has set up with any country in the world, which reflects the importance that India attaches to its relationship with Oman.
