India has provided a substantial grant assistance to Nepal towards construction of embankments along Lalbakeya, Bagmati and Kamla rivers in Nepal. India Ambassador Shri Rakesh Sood recently handed over a cheque of 82.39 million Nepalese rupees to Nepal's Minister of Irrigation Mr. Bal Krishna Khand for the purpose. This assistance is being extended by India in accordance with the decisions taken by the India-Nepal Joint Committee on Inundation and Flood Management. According to a press release issue by the Indian Embassy Kathmandu, with the present assistance, the total grant assistance already disbursed for embankment construction along these rivers now stands at 878.2 million rupees, of which 531.5 million rupees has been made available during this year. Separetely India has committed grant assistance of 109.96 million rupees for flood protection works along Trijuga, Lakhandei, Sunsari and Kankai rivers in Nepal, the release added.
