India & Nepal to boost cooperation in several areas including defence, security & trade

India has expressed the hope that all parties in Nepal will work for an inclusive constitution. Briefing the media in Kathmandu Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Syed Akbaruddin the External Affairs minister expressed the sentiment to the leader she met today.

Stating that all the political parties are working closely together India also welcomes the fact and hopes the constitution will come in time and according to what the people of Nepal want.

External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj today called on President Ram Baran Yadav , Prime Minister Sushil Koirala , Opposition leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal and other leaders across the political spectrum He added that all the meetings were conducted in a warm and cordial atmosphere .

The External Affairs minister is in Nepal leading the delegation to the India – Nepal Joint Commission which is meeting after a gap of twenty three years. Stating that the new government has accorded high priority relations to Nepal he said in the interactions with political parties with the Minister ,they have welcomed the engagement with India .

He also added that India-Nepal in hydropower cooperation is a 'win-win' situation and India stands stand ready to cooperate at a pace that Nepal is comfortable with.

Akbaruddin said that cooperation in the sector would help Nepal to solve the deficit trade balance which a large part of it goes on petroleum products that Nepal imports from India.
