India names 18-member squad for Hockey World League Finals

India today named a 18-member squad with three new faces in it for the Hockey World League Finals starting in New Delhi on Friday. Forwards SV Sunil and Yuvraj Valmiki made a comeback. The new faces named by the Selectors are goalkeeper Harjot Singh, midfielder MB Aiyappa and striker Affan Yousuf. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh will be Skipper Sardar Singh's deputy. Seven top teams, besides India would be vying for the title in the tournament to be held at the MajorDhyan Chand National Stadium. India face England in their opening pool encounter. Speaking after the Trophy unveiling ceremony, the Indian Captain said that India are hoping for a top five finish. The members of the Squad are:-Goalkeepers: PR Sreejesh (Vice-Capt), Harjot Singh.Defenders: Birendra Lakra, Rupinder Pal Singh, VRRaghunath, Kothajit Singh Khadangbam, Amit Rohidas.Midfielders: Sardar Singh (Capt), SK Uthappa, Dharamvir Singh, Manpreet Singh, Chinglensana Singh Kangujam, MB Aiyappa. Forwards: Nikkin Thimmaiah, SV Sunil, Mandeep Singh, Affan Yousuf, Yuvraj Walmiki.
