India and Myanmar today resolved to strengthen bilateral cooperation in telecom and IT sectors. The issue came up for discussion between Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma and Myanmar's Communications and IT Minister U Myat Hein in Nay Pyi Taw. An official release issued in New Delhi identified the areas of cooperation in these vital sectors and the two leaders noted that India and Myanmar have potential for future collaboration in sectors like oil and gas exploration, infrastructure, IT, pharmaceutical and manufacturing.Mr Hein assured Mr Sharma that the process of selection of telecom companies will be fully transparent and open. Several Indian companies have been shortlisted for the bidding process.The Commerce and Indutry Minister also met Mr Jon Fredrik Baksaas, the President and CEO of Telenor Group. Mr Baksaas appreciated India's intervention to work out a solution for the protection of investment of telcom companies, which he said, has been reassuring for Telenor and other investors.
