India men archery team come last in ranking round

At the London Olympics today, Indian men's Archery team finished at the bottom of the heap in the ranking round. In the event held at the Lord's Cricket Ground, the team finished 12th and last. The trio of Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Rahul Banerjee combined for a score of 1969 points.Individually, Tarundeep Rai was the best-placed Indian at 31st with 664 points from 72 shots. Banerjee was at 46th with 655 points, followed by Talukdar at 53rd with 650 points.The Indian men will be playing Japan in the pre-quarterfinals tomorrow. The winner of India-Japan fixture will meet USA in the quarterfinals.In the women's section, India's Deepika Kumari finished at the 8th spot in individual ranking round. L Bombayla Devi was placed 22nd, while Chekrovolu Swuro ended up in the 50th position. In the team ranking event, the women fetched the 9th place.Meanwhile, the boxing competition kicks off on Saturday. Beijing Olympics bronze-winner Vijender Singh (75 kg) will make his record third Olympic appearance.The weight classes of Vijender and teen sensation Shiva Thapa (56 kg) will get underway at the Excel Arena.
