India and Mauritius on Monday agreed to work closely on issues of trade, investment and other economic matters. Speaking to journalists after meeting Mauritius prime minister, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, President Mrs Pratibha Devi Singh Patil said both countries would work together on maritime security particularly regarding the increasing threat of piracy. The President said her visit will provide a greater momentum and thrust in the process of consolidation of the relationship between the two countries. Mrs. Patil urged the untapped potential in the trade and cooperation should be fully exploited.Mr Ramgoolam said they also discussed the use of Mauritius as a business platform linking Asia to Africa and investment opportunities in Mauritius.The President also called on her counterpart Sir Aneerood Juganuth. Earlier in the day, President paid homage to the first prime minister of Mauritius and father of the nation Sir Seewoosagar Ramgoolam at his Samadhi. She also planted an ebony sapling at the Seewoosagar Ramgoolam botanical garden. Our correspondent reports, the Prime minister Dr Ramgoolam will host a banquet in the visiting president’s honour later in the evening.
