India, Maldives discuss possibilities of enhancing cooperation in civil aviation

India and Maldives today discussed possibilities of enhancing cooperation in the field of civil aviation including increasing air links between Indian cities and Male and strengthening of infrastructure at the Male International Airport by an Indian company.

A Maldivian delegation led by its Minister of Transport and Communication, Dr. Ahmed Shamheed met Civil Aviation minister, Ajit Singh in New Delhi. Indian side brought to notice the problems faced by the Indian company in the meeting which was awarded the privatization contract for Male International Airport.

The Indian side emphasized that the Government of Maldives should consider company proposals to resolve the issues in amicable manner. The issue of bilateral air services agreement between the two countries was also discussed in the meeting.

On this occassion, Mr. Singh said that India will also relook the agreement which will help in boosting tourism between the two countries.
