India look to make most of FIFA U-17 World Cup<br/>

Delhi and Mumbai will play host to tomorrow&apos;s four opening day games of the FIFA under-17 World Cup, including one featuring the home side. The host nation will take on USA at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. India are placed in a tough Group A along with United States, Colombia and two-time champions Ghana. India is hosting its first FIFA World Cup ever. In all 24 teams are participating. India will become the fifth Asian country — after China, Japan, South Korea and UAE — to host the tournament which was started in 1985.In the second match in New Delhi, Ghana&apos;s pedigree will meet Colombia&apos;s pomp in an unfamiliar territory. Two-time champions Ghana are seeking to revive their fortunes in the tournament, having last won it way back in 1995, when they stunned a Brazilian outfit that had the likes of Julio Cesar in its ranks.More than sixty years after India declined the invitation to participate in the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Uruguay (when it was an invitational tournament), refusing to play in shoes, the country would be fielding a team in a World Cup. At the second venue Navi Mumbai, unheralded New Zealand will have a tough job at hand when take on Turkey in the Group B opening match at the D Y Patil Stadium. In another match, African champions Mali would look to start their campaign on a winning note when they take on Paraguay in a Group B match. Mali are the runners-up side in the last edition of the U-17 World Cup in 2015 and this time they would be aiming to move one step ahead by clinching the title. With 52 matches to be played in six venues, the event will be watched by a global audience of 200 million. Two group toppers and four best third place finishers will qualify for the knock-out round. Three-time champions Brazil, European winners Spain and Mexico are the hot favourites to lift the trophy while two- time champions Ghana, Germany, England and United States will also fancy their chances to go all the way in the tournament. African champions Mali and technically sound and creative Colombia could be the dark horses.
