India lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over the grave and unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops from across the International Border in Amritsar sector. The Pakistan's Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi was called to the External Affairs Ministry last evening and conveyed the protest. The firing took place on the intervening night of 8th and 9th of this month. External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said Pakistan was also asked to take all necessary steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
