India likely to have bumper foodgrain production this year: Pawar

India is likely to have bumper foodgrain production in the 2010-11 crop year .This is due to good monsoon and a rise in area under cultivation. <br/><br/>Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar told reporters on the side lines of a confrence in New Delhi today he said that the floods in Punjab and Haryana will have limmited impact on the food grain production. <br/>Mr. Pawar said food inflation has started coming down substantially, giving relief to consumers. He added that the falling trend in prices will continue in the coming weeks, he predicted. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, the area under sugarcane cultivation had gone up to 47.37 lakh hectares as on July 1, 2010, from 41.79 lakh hectares in the previous year, while the area under cotton increased to 43.68 lakh hectares from 29.17 lakh hectares. <br/><br/>Furthermore, oilseeds had been sown in 28.86 lakh hectares of area as on July 1 against 12.96 lakh hectares in the previous year.
