India, Laos & Cambodia should cooperate in fighting menace of terrorism: President

The President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil has said, Indian economy has weathered the impact of global financial crisis with resilience and is growing at rates it has achieved prior to the crisis. Addressing the Indian community at the reception held in her honour at Piantiane, Laos, She said the growth would qualitatively transform the economy of the country while improving economic relations with friendly countries including Laos.Earlier, Mrs. Patil said, there was enough scope in the world for both India and China to grow and develop fulfilling their aspirations. Speaking to media on board her special flight for a ten-day visit to Laos and Cambodia, the President said, both India and China have potential to grow in the ASEAN region.Stating that her visit to Laos and Cambodia would further strengthen the relations with the ASEAN countries, the President said, India is the largest trading partner of ASEAN. Exuding confidence that India’s trade and investment potential would grow further, she said Business and cultural relations with Laos and Cambodia would be strengthened further. Calling for promoting greater stability and security in the region, she said the three nations have much to gain by cooperating with each other in combating terrorism and extremism.Mrs. Patil said as a country coordinator for India in ASEAN, Laos played supportive role for enhancing India’s profile in the region. Later, the President has been received at the Watty International Airport in Laos by the Minister in PMO, Khempeng Pholsena (phoosena).
