The Indo-Sri Lankan Joint Working Group is expected to meet on the 28th this month , after a gap of almost five years to discuss issues related to fishing and other matters between the two countries . The meeting of the JWG was revived consequent to a meeting between Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, earlier this year. Ms Rao had visited the island nation , after the killing of two Indian fishermen in two separate incidents in the Palk Strait. The JWG would also address the proposed Memorandum of Understanding on development and cooperation in the field of fisheries. Representatives of some fishermen's associations from Sri Lanka’s Northern Province met the Indian High Commission officials in Colombo yesterday and raised the issue of poaching in Sri Lankan waters by fishermen from Tamil Nadu.
