India keen to see revival of political process in Lanka

New Delhi is keen to see the revival of political process in Sri Lanka. In a suo-moto statement in the Rajya Sabha today, the External Affairs Minister Mr S M Krishna said that the process should meet the legitimate aspirations of Tamils and all other communities within the frame work of united Sri Lanka. Mr Krishna asserted that India has been continuously emphasizing for devolution of power that goes beyond the 13th amendment of constitution. The Minister asserted that India attaches utmost importance to the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts being undertaken by the Sri Lankan government in the north. India has already given a package of 500 crore rupees for the internally displaced people in the island nation. Mr Krishna said, for speedy resettlement of internally displaced people, India is extending them assistance in de-mining and three more teams are being sent to expedite the process. Giving details of the relief material provide, he said India donated 2 thousand 6 hundred tonnes of shelter material and an additional material of the same quantum is being sent. The Minister assured the House that the safety of India fishermen in the waters between India and Sri Lanka has received highest priority and Indian High Commission in Colombo takes up matters relating to expeditious release of the arrested fishermen.
