India, Japan fast-track n-deal

<br/>New Delhi and Tokyo have decided to fast-track negotiations for a civil nuclear deal. Official sources said that the objective is to firm up the crucial accord to pave the way for nuclear commerce by the time the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh goes to Tokyo by the year-end. The two sides also expressed satisfaction over the commencement of talks on peaceful uses of nuclear technology. The conclusion of talks will enable Japanese Companies to participate in nuclear commerce in India. The issue figured prominently in discussions at the foreign office consultations meeting in New Delhi late Tuesday evening. <br/><br/>The Indian side was led by Foreign secretary Nirapama Rao and Japanese side by the deputy foreign minister Kenichiro Saseae. The progress on India Japan Flagship programmes also came up for review. Dedicated freight corridor and Delhi Mumbai Industrial corridor projects figured prominently in the discussions. In a sign of a new impetus in bilateral relations, India and Japan held two back-to-back separate dialogues aimed at giving more thrust to their strategic partnership. Earlier the talks between the two sides known as 2+2 dialogue focused on intensifying counter-terror and anti-piracy cooperation. <br/><br/>A meeting of the India-Japan Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism will be held soon. The two sides also discussed ways and means to expand cooperation in anti-piracy operations in the Gulf of Aden and reviewed their joint naval exercises. The next round of the India-Japan 2+2 dialogues will be held in Tokyo in 2011.
