India today said that strong relationship with Japan is a matter of the highest priority for New Delhi. Both the countries reiterated their committment to furthering the bilateral strategic and global partnership.<br/><br/>Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh met his Japanese counterpart Yukio Hatoyama on the sidelines of ASEAN meet in Thailand and called for finalisation of major economic initiatives with Japan including an early Conclusion of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.<br/><br/>Briefing the media about the meeting, Secretary, East in the Ministry of External Affairs Mr N.Ravi said, he favored completion of the Dedicated Freight Corridor and Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor project that the two sides have jointly begun on a priority basis. Mr Hatoyama said, he attaches particular importance to the realisation of corridor projects as symbols of cooperation between the two sides.<br/><br/>He also underlined the enhanced cooperation in the Economic, Defence and Security fields. Mr Ravi said, both the leaders also exchanged views on issues like climate change and forthcoming Nuclear Security Summit, besides other regional and global matters.<br/><br/>The two Prime Ministers had a good discussion on the future of the East Asia Summit process with Mr Hatoyama saying India is an important country in this process and both the sides should collaborate to develop the concepts of regional economic architecture.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent covering the summit reports that both the leaders met twice in a month, since their last encounter in Pittsburgh in the United States.
