Unhappy over China showing Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as its territory in maps of the country on their new e-passports, India has retaliated by issuing visas, containing Indian maps including these regions as part of it.
The move came after the Chinese government started issuing new e-passports, carrying pages with watermark Chinese showing these territories as part of China.
Taking note of this, India through its embassy in Beijing is issuing visas to Chinese nationals with a map of India including these places as part of its territory.
Earlier also, China had triggered a diplomatic row by issuing stapled visas to residents of Jammu and Kashmir, terming it as a disputed territory and denied visas to those hailing from Arunachal Pradesh. India lodged a strong protest with China which later reverted to issuing normal visas to residents of Jammu & Kashmir.
National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon is expected to visit Beijing soon for the next round of boundary talks at the level of Special Representatives with his Chinese counterpart Dai Bingguo.
India today termed as unacceptable China depicting Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as its territory in maps of its country on its new e-passports. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid told a private TV channel that New Delhi is not ready to accept it.
Earlier, China showed these territories as part of its own in the maps on their new e-passports.
The two countries are to hold Strategic Economic Dialogue in New Delhi on Monday with a focus on infrastructure, energy and Information Technology.The dialogue is aimed at discussing ways to enhance investments and business engagement between two of the fastest growing economies, significantly at a time when the western world is in a deep crisis.
The two sides are expected to sign upto 10 Memoranda of Understanding covering various sectors.
