Government today said, its recent efforts about securing India's membership of Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), which could not succeed following the China's objection, has actually opened the door in this direction. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, the attempt should not be seen as its diplomatic failure.

She said, India is in the continuous engagement with China over the NSG issue and one should not stop its efforts after being failed in one attempt. Mrs Swaraj said, China's objection on the issue was procedural as India is not a signatory of Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

She maintained, New Delhi will not sign the NPT but it stands for its commitment to nuclear non-proliferation. Mrs Swaraj rejected the accusation of creating hype over the NSG membership saying full efforts should not be called as creating hype. Last month, India failed to join the 48-nation grouping during the two-day NSG plenary in Seoul in the face of China-led opposition.
