India and Iraq today signed an agreement on energy cooperation to boost the bilateral ties. The agreement was inked after the delegation level talks between the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Iraqi counterpart Nouri -al Maliki in New Delhi today. Three other agreements to strengthen the trade relations and strategic partnership were also signed.
In a Media statement after holding delegation level talks Dr. Singh said that the two countries have also agreed to further cement cooperation in counter terrorism and intelligence to effectively deal with the menace.
Prime Minister said that the energy trading relationship needs to be turned into strategic partnership through joint ventures in oil exploration.
Dr.Singh said, the two sides have also decided to expand cooperation in agriculture , water resource management, pharmaceuticals ,healthcare and Information Technology.
