India interested in cooperation with Zimbabwe in mining, agro fields

India has expressed interest in cooperation with Zimbabwe in sectors like mining, power generation and agriculture. The Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Anand Sharma conveyed India's interest for cooperation when the visiting Finance Minister of Zimbabwe Mr. Tendai Biti called upon him in New Delhi. Besides, the two leaders also talked about the possibilities of cooperation in the field of science and technology cooperation. India has also interest in education and capacity building programmes in Africa and in Zimbabwe in particular, through the 'India-Zimbabwe SME Project'. Mr. Sharma informed the visiting minister that in the final phase of the project, experts from India would be visiting the African nation to train Zimbabweans in operation and maintenance of the machines and technologies gifted to them. He also expressed that Joint Commission Meeting between the two countries, which has not been held since 1996, would be possible this year. India's exports to Zimbabwe during 2009-10 were 49 million US Dollars and imports were valued at 21 million US Dollars.
