India informs UK it does not require any aid in case British government wants to discontinue it

The Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee today informed the Rajya Sabha that a proper mechanism is in place to look into the complaints of alleged misuse of foreign aid received for different projects in India. Responding to supplementaries in the House today, he said New Delhi has informed UK that it does not require any aid in case the British government wants to discontinue it. He said it is just 0.4 per cent of the GDP. Referring to the reports regarding discontinuance of aid for different programmes by Britain, Mr. Mukherjee said the new government in the UK has commissioned a review of each of their bilateral aid programmes. The objective to commission this review is to determine whether UK resources are needed for such programmes. He informed the House that the findings of the review of the UK government have not been communicated so far.
