Bilateral relations between India and Indonesia opened a new chapter today. Both the countries signed six memoranda of understanding in Jakarta in the presence of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and President Yudhoyono. The pacts are in the fields of health and family welfare, on combating corruption, narcotics control, disaster management, training administrators, and promoting friendly, cooperative and collaborative institutional relations. The institutions involved in the six fields will coordinate and collaborate between the two countries for the benefit of their peoples.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said that Indonesia is one of India’s most valued partners in our Look East Policy.
Prime Minister reaffirmed the importance of India’s Strategic Partnership with Indonesia for the two countries and the region. Both the countries agreed to deepen the partnership in five major dimensions of political, security, economic, people to people contact and international issues. Prime Minister reiterated India's resove to boost bilateral cooperation.
The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that the agreements signed today will add new meaning and content to the strategic partnership between India and Indonesia.He hailed Indonesia's role in the ASEAN partnership and said, India is looking forward to work closely with Jakarta.
The two sides agreed to renew the agreement on cooperation regarding the utilization of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
On economic partnership, the leaders agreed to establish a high level task force to effectively monitor implementation of business to business MoUs and identify specific projects for joint investment On cultural and people to people links, the leaders agreed to work on students and teacher exchanges and extend scholarships.
